How to Get Larger than Life Hair

Bigger is always better – well at least in the case of hair. That’s why, as frosty temperatures, dry air and frigid breezes try to flatten my strands, I enlist help from the big guns.

Enter Paul Mitchell – hair guru and cult favorite of fashionistas and celebrities alike with their Extra-Body collection, perfectly formulated to give your hair a little oomph this winter.

The Extra-Body Daily Shampoo states that it can gently clean and volumize fine to normal hair, helping to repair worn-down locks, boost body and maximize shine. Hello, yes please! The use of super-ingredients chamomile, henna, rosemary, aloe vera and jojoba create brilliant shine and reflection. Their Extra-Body Daily Rinse conditions, repairs and detangles, allowing maximum volume without the snarls.

And to help you do it yourself, we talked to Kathleen Firth, Owner of Paul Mitchell Focus Salon, Raika Studio who gave us 3 steps to achieve voluminous hair this winter.

Step 1 : Thicker fuller styles start with the right shampoo. Starting in the shower use Paul Mitchell extra body shampoo and conditioner. It leaves locks full of body, bounce and shine.

Step 2: Also using the right products before blow drying is key. Paul Mitchell Extra body daily boost root lifter gives boost and volume at the root of your hair. Start taking out the heavy wetness on hair by using your fingers to lift roots up with maximum tension while blow drying. Then when hair is half dry use a round brush to blow dry. Depending on size of brush take sections the same size. Using the brush lift up and out to create maximum lift. This will give you the fuller style you are looking for.

Step 3: Taking a horse shoe section on top of head from outer corner of eye-brow to behind the crown, separating it into inch sections and begin backcombing (tease) the hair. Hold hair straight up going and inch from scalp and teasing with a Paul Mitchell Tease brush. Stroke the hair 9 times after completing the horse shoe section. Lightly comb out hair to your desired shape. Big hair is fun and beautiful!
