How to get Kellie Pickler's look from the 2009 CMT Awards

The makeup at the 2009 Country Music Television (CMT) Awards had a definitive theme, no matter which hot recording artist stepped out on the red carpet: fun, but classic, with neutral colors.  It's not only in line with the summer makeup of 2009, it's the type of look that can never be wrong.

Read on to learn how to get Kellie's glammed up look.

  1. Start with a sheer-to-medium coverage foundation that will cover and perfect the skin without looking heavy or like a mask.  The natural skin should still peek through the foundation, and the finish should be natural, not overly matte or powdery.  Recommended options: For drier skin types, Lauren Hutton's new Breathable collection provides amazing, hydrating results, or Kevyn Aucoin Liquid Airbrush Makeup for normal, combination or oily skin types.
  2. Apply a thin layer of shimmering eyeshadow over the lower lid.  Kellie Pickler is wearing a coral-peach color to accentuate her eye color without being too strong.  Avon Eye Radiance Liquid Eye Colors are a creamy liquid that go on and stay on for an entire night out.  Best of all, they're only $6!
  3. Line the eyes with a soft, black or deep grey khol eye pencil.  Line both inside the upper and lower rims of the eyes, and apply a thin line to the top of the eyelid, right at the lashline.  Do not add eyeliner underneath the eye.  That will result in a look that is too heavy for summer makeup.
  4. Curl the eyelashes, then apply several coats of a volumizing and lengthening mascara.  CoverGirl LashBlast is an excellent option, or try Dior Diorshow Black Out Mascara.
  5. Line the lips with a nude or lip-colored lip liner, such as Bare Escentuals Spice or Blush, and then top with a matching lipstick for longevity.  Adding a gloss, like Ms. Pickler has, takes a boring lip and kicks it up a notch.
  6. Finally, sweep the cheeks with a soft color, using one of the top five blushes for every skin tone, and head out the door.
