The American Foundation for the Blind has announced a seminar to help individuals that have trouble dialing or hearing on the telephone. If eligible, individuals can receive free telecommunications equipment to accommodate their needs.
The seminar will be held at the American Foundation for the Blind, 11030 Ables Lane, Dallas, TX 75229.
The focus of the seminar is how to qualify for free phones and emergency alert buttons for those who have a disability or impairment.
Free telephones and SOS emergency buttons are provided under the Texas Department of Assistive & Rehabilitative Services program called STAP. The term STAP means Specialized Telecommunication Assistance Program, and it is available to all Texas residents if you meet the following conditions.
1. You must live in Texas and have proof of residency
2. You must have one of the qualifying needs.
Hard of hearing, or deaf.
Vision impaired or blind.
As mentioned STAP provides telephones and equipment that meet the qualifying guidelines. Some of the equipment is amplified telephones, big button or speakerphones and phones that can be answered remotely with a pendant or button, cell phones, and other types. In addition Free Emergency Alert Buttons are provided at no cost. Please bring documentation to prove you live in Texas that shows your current address such as the following: (Drivers License, Utility bill, voter's Registration, Texas ID).
