How to Get and Stay Healthy.

How do you get and stay healthy?  There are lots of people pushing fad diets and workout programs that are supposedly designed to help you get healthy and into shape.  However, there is one method that works for everyone if followed.  Here it is:  You've got to eat calories!   But you can't eat just any kind of calories; you've got to eat the right kind of foods/calories to truly get lean and healthy.

Some trainers are still teaching their clients to eat less, thinking that, the fewer calories eaten the more body fat their clients will lose. They begin their clients on low calorie diets (1000 calories per day and under).  Then, they place their clients on difficult cardiovascular and resistance training workouts. These calorie deprived diets do not provide enough nutrition to keep up with their client's energy requirements.  Their client's bodies will inevitably go into a "tearing down" state and they will lose muscle tissue.  Incidentally, their heart (which is also a muscle) can also lose muscle tissue from this depravation.  The body also loses stored nutrients in an effort to make up for the deficit caused by the poor diet and to try and fuel the body. This all leads to bad health.

Low calorie/calorie deprived diets also slows down the metabolism, which makes it easier to store body fat. And you can bet that no muslce will be built or maintained if the metabolism isn't running properly. Yes, to get healthy, you must eat calories.

You should eat several small meals each day and they should consist of lean proteins like white meat chicken, fish and eggs...starchy carbs like sweet potatoes, brown rice and oatmeal....and fibrous carbs like brocolli, asparagus and salads.  These frequent small meals provide a thermogenic effect to the body which actually boosts the metabolism.
