In a candid conversation with Cornel Chin, personal trainer to stars like Leonardo DiCaprio, he explained the secret behind his new book, Celebrity Body on a Budget -- and gave his thoughts on the biggest weight-loss myth!
“Celebrity Body on a Budget offers many ways in which to ‘sneak’ exercise into everyday life,” Cornel explains.
“With work and life balance, it can often feel that there is hardly any time to relax, let alone exercise,” he adds. “The book teaches the reader that by adapting simple changes to their lifestyle when doing household chores or performing other minor tasks, these can go a long way to helping one’s quest for fitness and weight loss.”
- Q: Do you have a favorite ‘sneak’ exercise?
“My personal favorite is ‘Move with the phone,’ which Cornel describes as doing short series of exercises during said activity. “If you’re using a mobile phone or a cordless handset,” he points out, “you shouldn’t have any trouble taking a few steps back and forth. Walk up and down the stairs for a higher calories burn.”
- Q: In your opinion, what is the #1 myth about weight loss?
“I believe the most misunderstood facts surrounding the issue of weight loss must be the topic of fad diets,” Cornel says. “Surprisingly many people remain conditioned to believe that fad diets work for permanent weight loss.”
Ok now people, listen up! Cornel offers a great explanation why people should NEVER go on a fad diet: “Fad diets often promise quick weight loss or tell you to refrain from certain foods in your diet,” he explains. “They’re potentially unhealthy because they may not provide all of the nutrients your body needs. Also, losing weight at a very rapid rate (more than 3 pounds a week after the first couple of weeks) may increase your risk for developing health complications. Diets that provide less than 800 calories per day could also result in heart rhythm abnormalities, which can be fatal. The mindset of the desperate weight loss brigade is in dire need of a radical change!”
