Have you always wanted to go on a cruise but thought you couldn't afford it or the kids wouldn't enjoy being "trapped" on a ship? Great news!! You can find cruises for less than $100 a day and remember that includes all your meals and entertainment onboard the ship!
The website www.vacationstogo.com is dedicated to cruises. Typically 90 days before the sail date the cruise line will start discounting the price until they receive what they deem is a reasonable occupancy rate then the prices will start rising again. The website has a subscription feature that will email you weekly about the cruises that have been put on the "90 day ticker" along with the advertised price beside the new price. It is common to see cruises discounted 60% and sometimes as much as 75% off retail. A few of this weeks examples of cuises leaving from Galveston are:
- 7 day cruise to the Bahamas, sailing March 27, Ports of Call are Nassau and Freeport Bahamas along with Key West Florida. The cost is $549 per person which is a 67% discount off the list price
- 5 day cruise to the Carribean, sailing April 30, Ports of Call are Progreso and Cozumel the cost is $399 which is 60% off retail
- 14 day cruise to Barcelona Spain, sailing May 1, Ports of Call are Ponta Delgada Portugal, Malaga, Cartegena and Barcelona Spain. The cost is ...are you ready for this ....$499. Yes $499 for a 14 day cruise that includes all your meals on board the 4.5 star Royal Carribbean Voyager of the Seas ship. The only draw back is you will have to fly back from Spain which will add to the cost but discount airfairs can always be found. A tip regarding airfare, it is cheaper to buy a round trip discount ticket and not use the second half of the flight rather than buy a one way ticket.
If you have children and are worried that there will not be enough to keep them occupied, don't worry! The ships are very kid friendly and have daily programs designed for kids of all ages. There are supervised events when you can drop the kids off in order to enjoy a romantic dinner or a stage show.
