How to feed those football fans

PLAY-OFF CHILI

3 lb ground beef

3 cloves garlic, diced

1 whole jalapeño pepper, seeded and quartered

1 teaspoon salt

8 ounces (1 can) tomato sauce

2 tablespoons cumin powder

2 teaspoons cayenne pepper

1 ounce corn starch

15 ounces (1 can) chicken broth

2 teaspoon paprika

15 ounces (1 can) beef broth

1 small onion, finely chopped

1 teaspoon brown sugar

Brown meat in large pot. Drain grease.

Add all remaining ingredients and simmer for one hour.

Add options, if you like, such as beans, more cayenne, beer, or even unsweetened dark chocolate.

After you add your secret ingredients, simmer for 30 minutes more, then serve. Include a bottle of hot sauce on the table for anyone who likes it extra-spicy. Serves 8.

If more friends show up than you were expecting, serve over cooked rice to stretch (or double the recipe).

Pick up your ingredients at DeVitis Italian Market at 560 E. Tallmadge Avenue in Akron. Hours are Monday - Saturday 8:30am to 6pm and Sunday 9am to 1pm.
