How to embrace your greatness

Andi Evans is a spokesperson for happiness, faith and optimism.

A speaker, teacher and coach, Evans offers coaching to help people embrace their greatness, among other things. "In our society we are running so fast, we forget our greatness," Evans said in a recent interview.

The first step to opening up to your greatness is to accept yourself, in your current circumstances, as you. "It is embracing that, wherever you are in life, you are exactly where you need to be," Evans said. "You can look at your situation as a struggle or as something you experience. You can identify yourself as someone who always struggles or as someone who is having an experience. Then you have the opportunity to have a new and different experience."

It is vital to understand your true self. "We all have the power to be whomever we want. "The only thing that holds us back from our dream is ourselves, when we let outside conditions cloud our vision," Evans said. "Do not let your conditions give you an image of yourself."

According to Evans, we all have greatness within us to be, do and have whatever we want, within reason. "I'm five-foot-six, I'm not going to be the world's greatest basketball player," she said.

In addition, we need to learn to stop criticizing, judging and being so hard on ourselves. "We live in an insatiable society. We always want more, more, more and are never satisfied," Evans said. "We our so conditioned to think that more and bigger is better. We rarely take the time to reflect on our own self-worth. We also judge ourselves on physical things instead of what makes us really tick—what is in our heart, our relationships and love. When you truly ask yourself what is one of your greatest moments, I guarantee it has nothing to do with things. It is love, whether it is self-love or love for another. There is nothing wrong with abundance. Abundance is great. But true satisfaction lives within our own heart."

Evans adds that greatness is also about slowing down our lives. "I feel we are on a treadmill and constantly going, going, going. We need to take time to stop doing and reacting," Evans said. "Take some time to sit for a moment out in nature or just by yourself. You can't be happy if you are not present. Take a moment to ask yourself some questions about what truly brings you happiness., what truly makes you joyful. You discover your greatness when you are being authentic and honest with yourself about what feels good in your heart and applying those things to your life.
