How to donate hair for Locks of Love at Jon Alan Salon in Bellevue (Photos)

September 27, 2013

About 14 years ago I learned about a non profit organization that provides wigs to financially disadvantaged children under age 21 suffering from long-term hair loss from any medical diagnosis. The organization is called Locks of Love and it serves children in the United States and Canada.

Locks of Love helps restore self confidence in kids by creating high-quality hairpieces for children suffering from medical conditions like alopecia areata and cancer.

The Jon Alan Salon in Bellevue is one of the hair salons in Nashville that will cut hair for free if the client is donating 10 inches of hair to Locks of Love. Keely took me through the process on Sept. 27, 2013.

Beginning with a discussion about how much hair to cut and what kind of style I was looking for, Keely then partitioned my hair off in small 10-inch ponytails. Next she carefully snipped off each ponytail. Then came a scented oil scalp and neck massage before my hair was washed and conditioned.

Keely dried and styled my remaining hair. She took before and after photos for the salon and graciously shared them with me for this article.

To donate hair for Locks of Love through Jon Alan Salons, simply grow your hair out long enough to permit 10 inches to be cut. Hair should be healthy and not chemically treated. After you have enough hair, call the salon and make an appointment and specify it is for Locks of Love.

Many thanks to Keely and the staff at Jon Alan Studio for the first-class treatment and their dedication to children impacted by hair loss.
