How to determine if you are gluten intolerant

According to a study nearly 81% of people suffer from intolerance to gluten and many are unaware.
Gluten is a protein composite found in wheat and other grains, including barley and rye and processed foods.

Gluten is what gives elasticity to dough helping it to rise and maintain its shape. Gluten is not naturally occurring in corn, rice, or oats.

Many people experince symptoms which may lead to a diagnosis of celiac disease or more commonly known as a sensitivity to gluten.

Dr. Nemet Oz has frequented this topic on his show and has shared a number of symptoms to beware of when self diagnosing for gluten sensitivity.

Digestive symptoms
• Frequent bloating or gas
• Diagnosed with IBS or acid reflux
• Daily diarrhea or chronic constipation

Neurologic & Skeletal Symptoms
• Migraine or headaches
• Joint pains or aches
• Brain fog

Hormonal & Immune Symptoms
• Depression or anxiety
• Ongoing fatigue
• Chronic eczema or acne

According to Dr. Oz if one is experiencing four or more symptoms or one severe symptom gluten may be the cause. Oz recommends omitting gluten from your diet for two weeks or contacting your physician.

Dr. Oz has prepared a diet plan known as The Gluten Free Diet to serve as a test for sensitivity to gluten.
