Today's Featured Friday article is about Andrea Saunder, a Certified Holistic Health Coach and founder of Life After Bread Health Coaching. Andrea works with her clients via Skype, email, or video call so you can live anywhere and still benefit from her expertise.
In the following interview Andrea answers some questions about herself and her business.
Question: Tell me about your business.
Answer: My coaching practice is called Life After Bread Health Coaching, and the name came from my own experience of healing chronic fatigue syndrome and leaky gut by cutting out gluten from my life. Now I am blessed to be able to help other busy, stressed out women regain their energy mojo and achieve their happiest selves. Although this doesn’t always involve a strict gluten-free life, my clients do find that reducing those processed, white grains makes a big difference to their health.
My mission is to help as many women as possible to realize that their biggest dreams for their health and their life are all possible! Sure, there are tasks to complete and changes to make and commitment to the cause. But you don’t have to do it all on your own, and when you work with a health coach you not only get the benefit of professional knowledge, you get a team mate who is 100% on your side, and the whole process can and should be fun!
Question: What does health mean to you?
Answer: I think great health is like growing a beautiful rose. To grow the brightest bloom with the sweetest scent you need water, nutritious soil, sunlight, loving care and the occasional pruning.
So it is with great health, we need nutritious food and water, fulfilling relationships, exercise and a sense of purpose.
If we only concentrate on one or two of these ingredients, we can stay alive. But when we pay caring attention to all of them, then we are truly blooming with health.
Question: Why did you get into this business?
Answer: I spent eleven years on my own healing journey: a quest to find out why my body wasn’t able to function fully, discovering answers and then realizing the extra miles I needed to travel in order to really get to great health. When I looked back I realized that I could have healed so much quicker with a lot less anxiety if I had the right people in my life: people with the knowledge to help me but also to really feel that someone was ‘on my side’. That’s why health coaching so appealed to me. It’s an opportunity for me to give a service to others that I wish I had myself.
The really great thing is that it was the final ingredient for my own great health. I quit a successful business that was not fulfilling me in order to retrain as a health coach and in the process I found my own true sense of purpose.
Question: What do your client's gain from working with you?
Answer: Well, my clients tell me that my positivity is infectious! Which sounds a bit flippant, but the power of having someone on your side, cheering you on each step of the way, really is important. Making the process of better health a fun activity is vital: we are making life changes and those will be much more sustainable if they are enjoyable.
I am blessed to work with clients to overcome debilitating conditions such as chronic fatigue syndrome, fibromyalgia and reversed Type2 Diabetes, as well as losing weight and gaining energy. I have walked the path alongside clients fearing job loss due to illness, to being promoted! Anything is possible when you commit to your health.
My coaching style does not solely concentrate on food. Together, we look at every area of your life to see where we can create healthy habits to overcome illness, stress and energy deficits. That can include trying new recipes, relaxation techniques, appropriate exercise (including dance breaks!) and finding ways to improve family and work relationships.
My clients really appreciate the safe space to discuss whatever is bugging them. We’re serious when we need to be and silly when it helps to be!
Question: What is your best tip for supreme health?
Answer: Absolute number one is Honor Your Individuality!
What works for someone else may not work for you. Do whatever it takes to learn what your fabulously individual body is telling you and adjust accordingly. A health coach can help you to tune in and then take action.
Question: Are you working on any new projects or have any new programs starting soon?
Answer: I currently work with clients on a one-to-one basis, and also run workshops on How To Avoid Career Burnout. My new project will be combining these into an online program for busy, stressed out women, so they can begin their better health journey in a way that suits their schedule.
I am also writing a book on how to easily include healthier foods, especially breakfasts and snacks, based on my free Take5 Recipe Series.
