How to copy photos from iPhone to PC

The iPhone 3GS

Want a quicker way to copy photos from your iPhone to your PC besides emailing each individual picture? There are two easy ways to get your photos copied to your iPhone to your PC without all of the hassle.

Copy photos from iPhone to PC manually

In order to complete this task, you need to have a destination in mind for the photos. Many people just use the "My Pictures" folder to hold their photos. You can get to this folder by opening your "Computer" icon (or "My Computer" on some computers) and choosing "Pictures" or "My Pictures" from the left-side menu.

  1. First, plug your iPhone into your PC using the appropriate cable.
  2. Next, open your computer folder by locating the "Computer" (or "My Computer") icon. It should be located on your desktop and is available through your start menu.
  3. Under portable devices, you should see your iPhone listed as something like "Dan's iPod". Double click on it to open your iPhone.
  4. Double click on Internal Storage
  5. Double click on DCIM to open the folder.
  6. Double click on the 100APPLE folder.
  7. You will now see all of your photos listed. Simply copy the pictures you want to the clipboard using CTRL-C or right-clicking and choosing copy, and then open the folder you want to put the photos in and paste using CTRL-V or right-clicking and choosing paste.

Tip: You can select multiple photos by each photo you would like to select while holding down the CTRL key. This allows you to select more than one photo even if they don't line up perfectly.

Copy photos from iPhone to PC by syncing through iTunes

Note: If you have photos on your iPhone already, you will want to follow the steps to copy the photos to your PC manually before you follow these steps to sync your iPhone photos through iTunes. This ensures that the photos on your iPhone are not wiped when you sync your iPhone to your PC.

  1. Plug your iPhone into your PC using the appropriate cable. If iTunes is not already open, it should automatically launch and begin syncing. If it doesn't, you can open it manually by locating the icon (which is probably on your desktop) and double clicking on it.
  2. Cancel the backup/sync process by clicking on the 'x' in the iTunes status bar. (It should read something like "Backing up Dan's iPod". You will have to cancel both the back up and the sync.
  3. Click on your iPhone under DEVICES.
  4. Click on the Photos tab.
  5. Check where it says "Sync photos from: My Pictures".
  6. If you only want to sync with a single folder, choose 'Selected Folders' and put a check mark beside the individual folder you want to sync with your iPhone.
  7. Click on the Apply button. This will sync your iPhone to your PC, and the iPhone will automatically sync the photos in the future whenever it is plugged in to the PC.
