How to Cancel a Magazine Subscription

See also

Unread magazine subscriptions are a waste of resources. They are a drain on your personal finances because you pay a monthly fee for something that is not properly used, they are a drain on natural resources because they often times are not recylced and are added to overcrowded landfills. They also clog your living space turning your useable area into a cluttered mess.

So how do you solve the problem? It’s actually very simple. The first thing you need to do is whittle down your list of subscriptions. You may find it hard at first to let go because you may think that you can make the time to thumb through them all, but if you are honest you will be able to identify a few that you can do without.

The following are three simple steps to cancel any magazine subscription.

Find the Customer Service Information

There is a customer service number or email located within all magazine issues. Usually they can either be found on the back cover or at the bottom of the table of contents. The words are in very fine print and you may not necessarily see “to unsubscribe” but the same department that deals with subscription and change of address issues also handles requests to unsubscribe.

Have Your Information Ready

You will be asked to give information such as your name, mailing address and possibly the credit card number used to order the subscription so make sure you have this ready when you make the call.

Make the Call or Send the Email

Finally, you should settle down to call customer service or send an email requesting the subscription be canceled.

Cutting down on unread subscriptions can save you money and make you really appreciate the odd issue when you come across it in the future.

As for those pesky catalogs that come to your mailbox, you can cancel those too! The frustrating thing about catalogs is usually you never asked for them in the first place. At CatalogChoice.org, you can stop catalogs and other types of unsolicited mail.
