How to buy used fitness equipment!

As the economy has worsened one category of fitness equipment sales has taken off. That category is used equipment. With an increase of people purchasing used, the avenues for used have changed as well. Places you can purchase used equipment include; Craigslist, EBay, web only stores, classifieds, and Fitness Specialty stores.
Craigslist and eBay are great places to find deals when you know what you are looking for. If you do not educate yourself on what you are looking for you can really get burned. Stuff on these venues is priced way more than their value a lot of the time. Sometimes on Craigslist you see something as a local product and you find out it is a company in New York or California. Always do research on the specific model you see here and see what they sell for before you make a trip to see them. If you go to someone’s house to look please never go alone.
Titles like serviced, refurbished, and remanufactured are being thrown around. Some companies take health club equipment and clean, service, and test equipment. Some companies will go as far as re-painting and putting new stickers on their stuff. This could be a good value for some but you pay a lot more for these units than traditional used. Companies that do this most of the time use non-manufacturer made lesser quality parts. In some of these cases it may be a better value to buy a new high end home product with a manufactures warranty. It depends a lot on how much you trust the company you are dealing with.
Fitness stores are now doing trade-ins and buying back some equipment and have a larger selection of used than before. It is like going to a car dealership for a used car. It is nice to be able to look at multiple units in one spot. You can touch and feel the product in a safe store setting and the dealer may have a warranty they can offer on the unit. When buying used, extended warranties may be a good idea if they are cost effective.
All in all buying used may be the rout you can go to get a great value. Do your homework and always take your fitness needs into consideration before you purchase something.
