Some of the richest people in the world do not have a huge bank account, live in a palace or drive a Rolls Royce. They don't own a Rolex, designer clothes or travel to exotic places. These people are rich without owning any of these things. So how can one have poverty yet be rich?
"I know your afflictions and your poverty; yet you are rich!" (Revelation 2:9)
Riches are not limited to what one has. Being rich is not the accumulation of material things. Some of the richest people have very little materially; yet they are rich spiritually.
- Diana, Princess of Wales died at 36 on Aug. 31, 1997.
- Mother Teresa of Calcutta died at 87 on Sept. 5, 1997.
In recounting their lives, it was said that just one outfit of Princess Diana was worth more than ALL of Mother Teresa's worldly possessions. Princess Diana was rich in the sense of accumulated wealth; Mother Teresa was rich without having material things.
While it is important to have money to live comfortably, it does NOT make a person rich. Genuine riches come from within.
This is what the Lord says:
"Let not the rich man boast of his riches, but let him who boasts boast about this: that he understands and knows me, that I am the Lord, who exercises kindness, justice and righteousness on earth, for in these I delight." (Jeremiah 9:23-24)
When you have Jesus in your life, you are rich whether you have money in the bank or not.
