The VMAs left viewers speechless on Sunday night. There was the Miley Cyrus train wreck, Lady Gaga and her seashell bikini, and countless other disasters brewing. Though the NSYNC reunion was very short lived, it seems as though it wound up being one of the only 'positives' of the evening. How did this group reunion come to be? Well, according to a People report dated Monday, August 26, JC Chasez has revealed that it was Timberlake's idea.
"It was just a matter of time. Everybody would ask us, 'When are you guys going to do something?' " Chasez said Monday.
"First of all, it was the worst-kept secret ever, [but] Justin gave me a buzz and he said, 'Hey man, listen. I'm getting this award and they have given me a pile of time to perform and we started our careers at MTV and I think we should get the band back together," he continued.
Since Timberlake was set to receive the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award, Chasez says he wanted to acknowledge his past with NYSNC.
"So we all decided to do it," said Chasez.
Chasez said that when the group got together to rehearse it was like old times.
"Two minutes after seeing everybody you feel like no time has passed," he shared.
NSYNC called it quits 11 years ago, but on Sunday night, they were still 'tearing up hearts.' Apparently their classic dance moves didn't come back to them so easily though.
They may have made it look effortless like they did in the 90's, but there just may be a good reason that their performance was so short.
"Everyone was going, 'Can we go through this one more time slowly?' … So that part was pretty funny," dishes the former NSYNC member.
As much as NSYNC'ers want to believe that a reunion tour is on the way, it looks as though they will just have to keep dreaming. According to Chasez, it's a "no."
"It was just about five guys who were great friends who spent 10 or 15 years together touring and we....wanted to give back to our fans, but we were there mainly to support Justin," he concluded.
Aw, so there you have it. The group was there to acknowledge Justin's big night, and though it caused some nostalgia, the days of NSYNC will ultimately have to remain a memory.
