Universal Pictures is getting ready to remake the classic animated film “How the Grinch Stole Christmas!”
Collider has learned today that Illumination Entertainment will handle the animation (the studio is most famous for “Despicable Me”), and Peter Candeland (“Balto”) is set to direct.
The new “Grinch” is described as a faithful adaptation of the book, as they will explore the story from a perspective more in line with the underlying tones of the book.
The last time we saw “The Grinch” on the big screen was over a decade ago when Oscar winning director Ron Howard made a pretty funny live-action adaptation with Jim Carrey, and I guess it’s about that time for a remake for the next generation.
With today’s graphics and CGI I can’t think of any reason not to make this film so long as they don’t throw in a bunch of pop songs people aren’t going to want to hear a decade from now.
