Some persons doing family history and genealogy research in the Springfield-Branson area would say that the Family Group Sheet is at the heart of all the documentation we do as we build our family tree and create our basic database of information. The Family Group Sheet organizes the individual man and woman as they are married and adds to these each of the children that are part of this family group.
For each individual, the vital records of birth, marriage and death with dates and places of the events are entered into the Family Group Sheet to present the basic information for a coherent family story. Ancestry.com provides a free PDF download of a Family Group Sheet and they are also available from other genealogy sources.
Use of a computerized database for your Family Group Sheet as well as all of your family history information quickly becomes your organizational method of choice, once you get beyond your immediate family. Many of us have begun this process by using the Free Personal Ancestral File (PAF) Family History Software now available from FamilySearch (note right hand column, second item down. Later, as needed, data accumulated can easily transfered, if desired, by use of the standard GEDCOM protocol.
