Does your child love dogs? Does he know which dogs he can play with and which he should not? Does he know what it means if a dog is yawning or if the dog is licking his lips? (Hint: it does not mean the dog is tired or hungry!) Does your child know how to "become a tree" to protect himself from a dog that is threatening or evenly just overly rambunctious?
The International Bite Prevention Challenge takes place during the week of May 15-21, 2011 and is designed to teach 50,000 children how to keep themselves safe around dogs. The Challenge partners with the Be a Tree program which teaches kids how to read the body language of a dog and how to use their bodies to "be a tree" to protect themselves from injury, when necessary.
Learn more about this program and how to teach your children to be safe around dogs in this podcast presented by Animal Cafe. Please feel free to join the chat in Animal Cafe's Chat Cafe on Wednesday (April 13, 2011) at 9PM EST to learn even more and ask your own questions.
