At 73, Raquel Welch boasts a bikini body better than most celebrities half her age. So what are the secrets of one of the world's most revered sex symbols? Raquel believes in the virtues of the "d" word: Diet, which she combines with yoga for her forever young appearance.
In her book "Raquel: Beyond the Cleavage," the superstar reveals tidbits from her menus and daily life. And she also offered insights in an interview, according to iFit & Healthy.
“I’m constantly on a diet, and I hate it. I don’t eat wheat at all. I’m allowed one cup of carbohydrates per day, and it’s brown rice or bran, oats, spelt toast -all those offbeat things that don’t cause the problems digesting," she explained.
Although Raquel eats green vegetables, she avoids starchy vegetables with her protein-rich meals. Translation: "I don’t eat peas, carrots, potatoes, anything like that. I have three fruits a day and lots of water. I love bread, pancakes, and burritos, and pizza. But I have to stick to the diet, because it makes me look and feel better."
As for fitness, Raquel Welch is passionate. “I still do something physical every day. You absolutely have to have an exercise program. I don’t care about what kind of plastic-surgery exploits you get into, it’s not going to do the trick."
In her book, she elaborates on why yoga is her chosen form of fitness: "On a typical day, I wake up around 5 a.m. After a very light breakfast of egg whites and Bieler’s Broth, I go to my yoga class that begins at 6:30 and goes until 8. After yoga, I feel energized, and I have my whole day ahead of me. Yoga really has an enormous rejuvenating quality to it because it affects the endocrine system. And for a woman who’s aging, you need flexibility and you need to work your joints – and yoga does that. I do yoga six days a week."
