How P90X can contribute to a Kinesiology major

Today, maintaining a healthy lifestyle is among one of society’s latest obsessions. More people than ever are hitting the gyms, educating their families about proper nutrition and taking the steps necessary to improve their quality of life. If you’ve always wanted to help others recognize the importance of physical fitness and the role it plays on a daily basis, you may want to look into the rewarding choice of majoring in Kinesiology.

The actual definition of this particular major is the study of the movement and mechanics of the human body. Obtaining a Bachelor’s in Kinesiology opens up a door of career options for graduates, including but not limited to sports training, physical therapy, massage therapy and exercise sciences, among others. There are a variety of colleges and universities that have excellent Kinesiology degree programs to offer students. In the Bay Area, students can choose from schools such as Cal State East Bay, Ohlone College, San Francisco State and San Jose State University.

In general, those studying Kinesiology tend to also lead very active lives themselves. After all, what better way to showcase the skills learned in this degree program than leading by example? One important aspect of being a Kinesiology student is keeping on top of the latest trends in exercise and fitness. P90X is one exercise regimen that students will definitely want to learn about and even try out themselves.

Sometimes mistakenly referred to as PX90, this rigorous, effective program was developed back in 2004 by fitness guru, Tony Horton. These well-rounded workouts combine everything from yoga and weight lifting to interval training, martial arts and plyometrics, to name a few. The workouts are broken down into 12 DVDs, each offering various routines to do at home. By following the system and performing the exercises, results are guaranteed within 90 days, hence the name.

The workouts are designed in a way that is not only entertaining to perform at home, but keeps the body constantly challenged by creating what is known as “muscle confusion.” By keeping the body guessing by performing different routines each time, this prevents the body from reaching its “plateau,” which is what happens when the muscles become accustomed to the same exercise and eventually stops producing recognizable results.

In addition to the DVDs, there is also a P90X nutrition guide, which is specially designed to help individuals identify how to introduce proper nutrition and healthy calorie consumption into their daily eating regimen. This aspect of the program is also beneficial for Kinesiology students, since part of the skills learned in this degree program include studying nutrition and how it impacts the human body.

To learn more about the system, there are plenty of online P90X reviews available. Overall, Tony Horton’s program has been given great reviews and testimonials. Even those that are skeptical of the system still admit that the workouts do provide a challenge and results for those that are diligent about following the program.
