Why I’m obsessed with Balmain's Olivier Rousteing is for a number of insanely inspiration reasons. Lets start with the fact the he’s just 27 years old and is the Creative Director of Balmain. And his transition from law student to fashion royalty is even more impressive. At 18 he dropped out of law school and move away from his adoptive parents in Bordeaux, because he was bored, and made his way to Rome to pursue his fashion career. Once in Rome Rousteing knocked on the doors of every fashion house until one opened, Roberto Cavalli. After five years of working for Cavalli Rousteing decided to write to then creative director of Balmain, Christophe Decarnin to tell him how much he loved his work and creativity and that landing him a job as an assistant, then in 2011 Christophe promoted Rousteing to creative director when he stepped down.
My obsession continues with the fact that Rousteing is probably the most gorgeous man in the world. I mean to have those cheek bones and that face that literally gives you face at all times matched with his next level creativity is, I’m at a loss for words. I wonder if he’s nice, if so that’s just too much good for one person.
I’m also obsessed with the fact that he made Balmain a “rock star’ lifestyle with the Balmain army and Rihanna as his muse. And with all this success and the amount of work it takes to create a line how do you think it would make him feel to see his collection knocked off my more affordable brands like Zara and H&M? He loves it!
"I think it was Coco Chanel who said if you're original, be ready to be copied," he said. "I love seeing a Zara window with my clothes mixed with Céline and Proenza! I think that's genius. It's even better than what I do! I love the styling, I love the story... I watch the windows always, and it's genius what they do today. They go fast, they have a great sense of styling and how to pick up what they have to pick up from designers. I'm really happy that Balmain is copied - when I did my Miami collection and we did the black and white checks, I knew they would be in Zara and H&M. But they did it in a clever way - they mixed a Céline shape with my Balmain print! Well done! I love that." ~ Another reason to be obsessed with Oliver Rousteing.
