NASCAR fans were eyewitnesses to history at Homestead when Jimmie Johnson clinched his fourth consecutive championship. The unprecedented triumph is arguably the most impressive since grown men decided to jump into these cars and see who can drive the fastest.
Johnson joins Jeff Gordon in a drive for five in 2010, as we embark upon a new decade.
He will endeavor to edge closer to the record seven championships held by Richard Petty and the late Dale Earnhardt.
While Johnson’s remarkable feat is a once in a lifetime achievement, a majority of the fans cannot bring themselves to root for team 48.
In fact, I know of several fans that passed on watching the Ford 400.
For the fans bored stiff due to the one-man show, things are not looking up.
This team has no chink in their armor.
They are rarely in the wrong place at the wrong time.
If there were such a thing as law of averages, it would have kicked in by now.
Johnson and the No. 48 team are destined to dominate this era.
It is to a point to where it is difficult to imagine another driver winning the title.
Looking ahead to 2010, Mark Martin and Denny Hamlin stand out as early legitimate threats to Johnson and the No. 48.
Kurt Busch, Jeff Gordon, and the Richard Childress Racing drivers will be tough as well.
Do not expect Roush Fenway Racing drivers Greg Biffle, Carl Edwards, and Matt Kenseth to linger in midpack.
In fact, those three drivers will be dangerous in 2010.
However, do not count on anyone beating the four-time champions.

The issue is not Jimmy Johnson, it is the media. He is constantly trashed for a reason I can't explain. Boring? No way. Exciting? You bet. At the Phoenix race there were far more fans wearing the number 48 than than any other number. Perhaps what the bubbas need is Jr winning 4 straight. Then we could listen to him butcher the English language and spew 4-letter words. We both know that will never happen. We are rooting for 5-straight!
Its not Jimmie Johnson thats pushing away viewers!!! Its the ESPN coverage of the sport! The announcers suck from Jerry Punch,to Mr Brewer, to the pitreporters! Heck the producer can not follow the racing on the track its all about the chase and not the race. I love love love the chase but wish ESPN wasnt the network to cover it!
