How many calories burn one pound of fat

Ever wonder how many calories you need to burn on the treadmill in order to lose a pound of fat? 3500 calories is the magic number. 

In order to lose one pound, 3500 calories must be subtracted from your diet or burned through activity, but this does not have to be done in one day.  3500 calories can be burned over the course of a week or two.

The 3500 can be from exercise or diet or both.  The most successful weight loss occurs when people burn calories with exercise and deduct a little from their food.

This number is the same for putting weight on also.  If over time you eat more than your body needs, you will gain one pound for every extra 3500 calories consumed.

    Hello!
    When you say 'more than your body needs' how would you determine that number? How much does an average body need or are there calculators to determine how much one might need based on weight and height? Does your level of activity effect how many calories your body normally needs or does the amount stay rather constant?

    On a side note, I really like your articles, I find them very informative and you really do a great job of not only making things clear, but responding to things that others might not have understood at first. Thank you for taking the time to do this :)
