Kim Kardashian has come under fire recently for her charitable contributions. Many times, the young star sells her personal items on eBay, promising 10% of the proceeds to charity. While that is a wonderful gift, Radar Online, March 28, 2014, uncovered tax documents on how much she really gave to charity.
Fans watched an episode of “Keeping Up With the Kardashians” when Kanye cleaned out Kim’s closet. Kim took advantage of that episode and tweeted to her followers that all the clothes that Kanye removed from her closet would sell in a charity auction on eBay. The proceeds were going to the Life Change Community Church. However, if you didn’t read everything, you might fail to realize that only 10% of the money made was going to charity. The Life Change Community Church is a church founded and funded by Kim's mother, Kris Jenner.
Apparently, Kim does not donate 10% of the actual selling price of the item. They have to wait until everyone else is paid. According to Radar Online, Kim said, “When the eBay numbers get broken down, the auction management agency that posts for me gets a percentage for all their hard work, then, eBay listing fees, end of auction fees, eBay Store fees, PayPal fees, etc, all add up to about half the sale. Then I give 10% to charity.”
Radar Online uncovered the PayPal Charitable Giving Fund tax documents that shows how much Kim gave to charity and how much she kept for herself. According to the calculations, the total sale amount may have been around $399,500. Kim received around $179,775, with only $19,975 going to charity.
The donation is a large number, however considering that Kim is worth roughly $40 million, and Kanye is estimated to be worth $100 million, it makes those numbers shrink. When Kim’s donation is compared to others on the PayPal Charitable Giving Fund Tax Documents, hers fell short. Sophia bush, supporter of Pencils Of Promise, raised $22,207 in the last financial year. However, Lady Gaga's charity, Born This Way Foundation, made $167,754 in charitable donations.
With all Kim’s money and being on the cover of Vogue, what are your thoughts? Do you think she should give more to charity or at least donate the 10% before paying others and herself? Sound off below.
