'How I Met Your Mother' finale disappoints long time fans

No, it's not an April Fool's joke. "How I Met Your Mother" has ended it's run for good and fans are really upset at the way it ended. On April 1, US Magazine reported that fans had taken to Twitter to talk about how disappointed they are.

The story of "How I Met Your Mother" has carried on for 9 seasons now. Fans have been waiting all season long for the grand finale and so they can find out how the story ends. Apparently that long-awaited ending has left many wishing they never watched to begin with. Others are starting to process whether or not they liked how it ended. In any case, the show ended on a very not funny note, especially considering it is a comedy.

If you haven't watched the final episode of "How I Met Your Mother" and still plan to do so, please stop reading now. There will be show spoilers from this point forward.

The final episode of "HIMYM" ended on not such a comedic note that left fans in tears. Ted Mosby was able to meet "The Mother" who had been much of a secret throughout the season. He fell in love, got married and they had kids. Then she died.

The theory that the mother would die floated around the internet for the bulk of the season. Ted is telling the children how he met her six years after her death. In this final episode, Ted realizes it is Robin he is in love with. That is when Ted rushes to Robin so he can finally ask her out.

As it may turn out, Robin had married and then divorced Barney. The two of them had children together too and Barney had grown from a playboy to a great father.

Many fans showed a lot of anger on Twitter about the way things all played out. They were upset that they waited so many season to hear the ending and to meet the mother. In the end, they really didn't get to know much about her and only "met" her for a small portion of the last show.

Many also didn't like it that Ted Mosby's mother wasn't his true love and that it turned out to be Robin after all. The silver lining in all of this is that the show was ended in such a way that two spin-off shows can be made of what's left.

There is a story line that could be written about Barney and his life after settling down and having children. There is also an opportunity now to show the life of Ted and the kids after the death of the mother. Fans can see if everything works out between Ted and Robin.

What do you think about the ending of "How I Met Your Mother?" Are you upset at the surprise twist or okay with it? Do you think there will be any "HIMYM" spin-off shows?
