Make Every Day a Friday!: The joy of connecting who you are with what you do by author Marina Spence introduces the idea that hating your job can actually be a gift. How is that possible?
When working with clients, Marina discovered that while some people think they hate everything about their job, when they use her techniques, they find out that might not be the case. Being able to pin down exactly what you hate about your job may lead you to the realization that you actually like your work, but there are aspects of it you need to change. This clue, you’re attitude of hatred, once investigated, can lead you to change and bring harmony into your workday.
What Marina calls mind-clicks also has an impact on our work situation. A mind-click is an instant reaction that we have towards something that is usually based on conditioning. For example, Marina was working with a very creative person who had difficulty finding a job in the corporate world. He had a lot of different interests including theater and building things. She suggested he consider going into business for himself. The man looked at her with horror on his face and said, “But then I would be poor.” That’s an example of a mind-click, an immediate visceral reaction to an external stimulus. So his mind was set up that going into business for himself equaled poverty. If we pay attention to our own mind-clicks, we may discover what is holding us back from being successful in our careers.
Our Guiding Star, another unique concept in Make Every Day a Friday!, is an important, easy technique for people to follow to improve their lives. The purpose of the guiding star is to find somebody from whom you receive a spontaneous feeling of inspiration. This role model will give you confidence that “if she can do it, I can do it.” This immediate validation is something to pay attention to and learn how to achieve a success similar to theirs.
Marina goes in depth into these ideas, and many more, in Make Every Day a Friday! For more of what Marian had to say, click on the linked articles Three Keys to Inner Change and Make Every Day a Friday.
