Since the beginning of search engine optimization, marketers have been using keyword research as a way to gauge traffic and competition for specific terms. Tools, analytic and individual studies have been done on almost every term you can think of.
We judge these keywords based on obvious criteria. Search volume, level of competition and probability of purchase. It’s essentially been keyword madness for many years. In fact the word, “keyword” is highly competitive due to keyword research being in such high demand.
Social media is about to change all of this. Even the search engines know this and some of them are even trying to prepare you for it. But, have you heard the warnings? The most obvious warning came from Google itself, in the form of a social network called Google+ .
Most marketers have at least a small understanding of how seo works. Therefore they know that social media is playing a huge rule in search engine rankings right now. The strange thing is most people have yet to really dig in and figure out why.
Did you know that if you are connected to someone through a social network it is more likely that you will show up when they search for something? This means that all this extreme research that has been built on and optimized, sometimes for year’s means nothing if someone added you to their friend list last night.
Think about what this means to seo, and to your business.
