How does Bellator 123 stack up with UFC Fight Night 50?

According to a Sept. 4 post from Bleacher Report, Bellator and the UFC will be going head-to-head this weekend in Connecticut. Bellator is bringing a stacked card to Mohegan Sun, while the UFC is slated to hold a show just 10 miles down the road at Foxwoods Casino.

Since Bellator and the UFC will be held on the same day at approximately the same time, many MMA fans will be forced to choose which show to attend. There won't be enough time for Connecticut MMA fans to get to both, since the shows will be happening right around the same time. Which one is better? That's a tricky question.

Bellator 123, which airs live at 8 p.m. on Spike TV on Sept. 6, features an intriguing main event between Pat Curran and Patricio Freire. Curran and Freire fought once already, and it was a split-decision that ended in the Illinois native's favor. The Brazilian looks to reign supreme this time around.

Elsewhere on the Bellator 123 main card, TNA Heavyweight Champion Bobby Lashley will be competing against Josh Burns, a man who hasn't won in four appearances under the Bellator MMA banner. In all likelihood, this will be a squash match in Lashley's favor. Since Bellator airs on the same channel as TNA, it would be in the channel's best interest to have Lashley walking away as winner.

In other action on the Bellator 123 card, "King Mo" Lawal makes his grand return to the cage, following a controversial loss to Quinton Jackson. Rounding out the bill, Lavar Johnson battles it out with Cheick Kongo. Is Bellator 123 better than UFC Fight Night 50? In some ways. In other ways, not so much.

UFC Fight Night 50 features a loaded main card that includes many household names, including Gegard Mousasi and Alistair Overeem. In the UFC Fight Night 50 main event, Ronaldo Souza fights Mousasi in a middleweight bout to determine who is a legitimate top five contender. Elsewhere on the UFC Fight Night 50 card, Alistair Overeem fights Ben Rothwell at heavyweight.

UFC Fight Night 50 and Bellator 123 both go down Sept. 5 in Connecticut. UFC Fight Night 50, which airs on Fox Sports 1, will be held at Foxwoods Casino. Bellator 123, which airs on Spike TV, emanates from Mohegan Sun. It will be a great night of fights for MMA fans.
