Life is a grindstone. Whether it grinds us down or polishes us up depends on us.
-Thomas L. Holdcroft
Successfully achieving your goals will depend on how well you manage your setbacks. All things in life have hills and valleys. It is important to acknowledge this but even more important is to embrace this. It is natural to have an up side and a down side, a good time and a bad time. It is all around you in nature and it is all a part of the process of life; it is a law of the universe. So why fight it, why let it get you down, why let it affect your desire for success?
Setbacks as we may call them are necessary to our development. They are a learning stage. Sure, we may face trying times but what is important is not to get stuck in that moment. We must learn to lift our mentality beyond what can be seen, and go deep within ourselves for answers and solutions. To remain stuck is to be weak and defeated.
When you are in the valleys of your life, look for what you are learning there, what is the lesson? In every set back, there is a lesson and even a bright side, you just have to look deep into the situation to find it. When you do find it you have enriched your life just a little more for having discovered it.
When you are in the valleys, or setbacks, you can also go through it with the knowing that it is just that, a set back. It is not the end of life as you know it but rather a space to allow for a better time ahead. Set backs are a blessing. They give us the opportunity to dig into our creativity. It is an opportunity to find something else within ourselves. Something that perhaps we never knew was there. So much has been discovered as a result of something bad happening. When you look for ways to move out of a valley and up onto the hill, you are bringing an energy that is assisting you to achieve that goal.
This energy is found in resilience. Resilience is found in people who have a purpose in life. They see a bigger picture and therefore have the resilience to accept the turn for the worst. Some people will find their purpose as part of a divine plan while other people have goals and dreams that keep them moving forward. The important factor is to have a vision and a sense of purpose that can transcend the negative condition.
Whatever life may throw at you, a real victor is one who overcomes circumstances. People who triumph have a higher level of thinking and penetrating insights. They take what are big problems to the average thinking man to be minor annoyances. They shrug off problems and never go around talking about how bad things are. While the average man will jump on the whining and blaming bandwagon, other people have a strong faith and simply know that they will come out unscathed. They stand behind the promises of God in Jeremiah 29:11 (For I know the plans I have for you,” says the LORD. “They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope”). They are doers with awareness that there is a God ready to help them.
You must learn to shift away from negativity and make it your objective to create the circumstances you wish to see. There is nothing to be admired in whining or mourning. No one wants to be around a whiner. Whining drags others down and saps out energy. On the other hand, victorious people are those whose energy levels are always high. Despite what problems they may face, they resonate with positive energy. They are people who appreciate every situation, treating problems as learning processes.
Instead of wallowing in self pity, they are filled with self love. They see their strengths. Their self worth is located within, and do not see problems as threatening their status as people. To reach such a level of thinking, we must strive to be emotionally detached from problems and be led by our supreme consciousness. This is the only way we can successfully handle 'setbacks'. As long as we have a low level of consciousness, focusing on all the negative things, we will continue to attract the circumstances we do not wish to see, we will not learn from problems but rather continue to be victims. Breaking this cycle requires shifting our mental attitudes.
A set back can be an opportunity to change direction. Be open to what paths are now available to you. As the saying goes when one door shuts, another door opens. Sometimes it is not easy to see it when you are in the midst of chaos. However with a little clarity of mind, you will be able to find the opportunity in the setbacks, finding a path to success.
