How do I get to New Orleans' City Park?

For most tourists and some residents, the easiest and most relaxing way to get to City Park from downtown is by way of the Canal Street Streetcar.

The line starts running at 7:30AM from Harrah's Casino at the foot of Canal Street and it heads up Canal, turning on North Carrollton Avenue, stopping at the entrance to City Park at the Art Museum.  The last car leaves Harrah's at 11:55PM, reaching the park fifty minutes later.  The car leaves the park at 12:45 in the morning reaching its final destination of the day (Harrah's again) at 1:15AM.  The full schedule is here

As always, when walking the streetcar tracks, be aware of approaching cars.  The line along Canal Street is home to two different trolleys, both of them named the Canal Streetcar.  One set of cars is marked "City Park/Museum."  The other is marked "Cemeteries."  When going to City Park, make sure you get on the right car.

Cemetery-bound cars run more frequently along Canal Street without turning onto North Carrollton Avenue.  The City Park cars run at the following intervals:

7:00AM to 7:00PM (the early start time originates from City Park): every 40 minutes.

7:00PM to 10:30PM: every 75 minutes.

10:30PM to 1:15AM: every 90 minutes.

If you are going anywhere along Canal Street prior to North Carrollton Avenue, you can take the more frequent Cemetery Line.  No need to wait for the less frequent City Park car to show up.
