I am asked frequently about how to apply for a wedding license in the state of Georgia. So I wanted to give all engaged brides and grooms some basic information as to obtaining a marriage license in the Peach State. The process is really very easy and simple. Many husbands and wives to-be see this as being one of the scariest processes in the entire nuptial experience. Let me break it down as a wedding license for dummies type of thing. Really, the one and only place to start is to ask yourself “In what Georgia county do I reside?” Once you answer that question the rest is a piece of (wedding) cake. Just look in the phone book and get the phone number of your county courthouse. Then call the courthouse of the county in which you reside and ask for the Probate Court. They will take you step-by-step through the process and will be able to give you all the information you will ever need! Just follow their directions and you are ready to get married! NOTE: Marriage licenses in Georgia do not have an expiration date.
What you will need: Two valid forms of ID such as birth certificate, drivers license, social security card, U. S. passport, or resident alien ID card. Both bride and groom must be present and blood tests are no longer required!
