There’s a growing concern across our country regarding increased government spending and government control. You may feel things aren’t right, but not sure why.
Liberty and Tyranny: A Conservative Manefisto written by Mark R. Levin speaks from a conservative point of view the roles the Founders laid out. Government checks and balances were put in place because the Founders understood power begets power and without the checks and balances, tyranny is the result.
The End of America: Letter of Warning to a Young Patriot written by Naomi Wolf speaks from a very liberal viewpoint and outlined the ten steps used by other countries to successfully close down a democratic government. We’re now close to step 9.
What’s interesting is that both books were written from polar opposite voices, but the message was the same. The checks and balances set forth by the Constitution by our Founders have been eroded over the years and laws enable anyone with ill intent to overthrow our government and turn our democracy to a dictatorship overnight.

- Read. Read. Read. Read the books mentioned above to understand what’s happening today and refresh your memory on the role government should be playing in our daily lives.
- Talk about it. Share the books with friends, family, co-workers so they, too, will be informed. Talk at the dinner table, office break room, and text message people you know, so awareness is raised.
- Stay informed on what going on. With your eyes open, keep up-to-date on what bills are being brought to vote. Make your voice heard by contacting your Congressmen and ensure they vote to represent you.
- Become active. Grass-roots organizations are rising up to raise awareness and send a loud resounding voice to get back on track. One such group is the Tea Party Patriots that organizes local events across the country. The first was held on tax day, April 15. The Richmond Tea Party site is www.richmondteaparty.com. The next Richmond Tea Party event is Liberty 101, which will be held at the Chesterfield Fair Grounds on Saturday, July 25, 2009 at 1:00 pm.
Remember, our right to liberty transcends political party affiliation. It is about ensuring America remains a place of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.

I would say the opposite is true. We've never had more freedom than we do today and the democratic process is very much alive and well. You only have to look at the recent presidential election to see that.
Steve. If you believe you have more freedom today than in 2009, then these books were written for you. I challenge you to read Liberty and Tyranny and comment again.

Big business is taking over our country, when theres two candidates, one a puppet and the other a true politician, if the puppet has deeper pockets and stronger connections they will win. Big business has been buying seats in congress and is taking our rights away, we have lost many freedoms in the "Patriot Act", we cannot protest peacefully without a permit from the city, and now our media is being controlled and manipulated. All we have left is freedom of speech, and thats easily censored or forgotten thanks to american idol and all those pathetic reality shows. "Rome is burning"
