Henri Nouwen, in his book "The Wounded Healer" says that when you are healed from wounds, then you are in a good position to help others because of what you have been through.
During a workshop about spiritual warfare, a Christian woman was quite transparent about how she went from divination to deliverance. For those of you who don't know, "spiritual warfare is a battle between believers and Satan." Unfortunately, most Christians are not aware how they give Satan legal rights to come into their lives through divination.
During the discussion, this Christian woman explained that she participated in divination and occult practices only to discover later that they were forbidden by the scriptures. It was when a pastor taught about spiritual warfare that she realized she had been dabbling in the occult. The pastor suggested that she should make a list of every practice she had participated in. To her and his amazement, there were 32 practices that had to be acknowledged, renounced and replaced. That was a timely procedure because she had to be delivered from each one individually and not as a group since they were entered into separately over a period of time.
Now that the woman has been delivered from demonic affliction she talks freely about what happended to her to help others because many people are unaware of the curses they bring on themselves because of their involvement with occult and satanic activities. Perhaps the list below can help people determine why their lives are not as blessed as they should be.
The woman explained that the earliest remembrance of dealing in the occult was when she was in college in the 1960’s. She owned a Ouija board without knowing that it would bring a curse. Girls would come into her dormitory room and gather around the board where they would spend hours and hours asking the Ouija board questions such as who they would marry and what would happen to them in the future. The Ouija board is no longer in the woman's possession.
Nine out of ten people have participated in divination or other occult activities at some time in their lives whether they admit it or not. They have probably had their fortune told at a carnival or the state fair. They have probably read their fortune before eating a Chinese fortune cookie. They have probably read their horoscopes in a newspaper or magazine. No matter how innocent it appears, doors were opened and unfortunately, they are still open.
The woman explained that in the past she has had her fortune read by fortune tellers. She had visited witch doctors, clairvoyants, palm readers and psychics of every kind. She wanted to know how her life would turn out. So she searched for answers through these forbidden practices.
According to certain scriptures such as Deuteronomy 7:25, Deuteronomy 28:15-68, 2 Kings 17:17, Jeremiah 27:8-9, and Acts 16:16-24, fortune telling, psychic readings and other occult practices are forbidden. Believers should never go to a psychic or fortune teller for any reason. They should stay away from psychics and fortune tellers, Ouija boards, crystal balls, tarot cards, tea leaf readings and reading of animal entrails. These are forbidden by the scriptures. God is the creator of the universe, and He alone only knows your future.
As a young adult, this woman became so good at reading tarot cards that she could read her own teacher. Once she volunteered to do readings at a mall to raise money for an organization. She read continually from morning to night. People were impressed because she told them about themselves without knowing them. After the marathon, she became ill and remained sick for three consecutive days. She destroyed the tarot cards and never read them again.
This woman was seeking something to fill a void in her life. She studied rocks and other occult methods to find out how her life would turn out. She burned red candles because she was told by burning them she would find love. She burned green ones for money. The only things that happened from burning candles were curses she brought on myself.
Silva Mind Control
She learned Silva Mind Control techniques to find parking spaces, to rid herself of pain and to program things to happen just by concentrating on them. She learned to levitate and enter into self-hypnosis.
While nothing is directly wrong with those practices, they could have led into dangerous territory. The practices were supernatural on the dark side. Satan has a counterfeit for what God has, and it is dangerous when a person trusts in the darkness of Satan rather than Jesus Christ who is the light of the world (John 8:12).
This woman studied transcendental meditation as well as the principles of Edgar Cayce and New Age based on metaphysic and spirit guides. She used to meditate according to Eastern religions, but she now meditates on God's word according to Joshua 1:8 and Psalm 1:2.
Horror Movies, Pornography
For entertainment and pleasure, the woman used to watch movies without a second thought to whether they were X-rated movies with pornography, or horror movies with vampires, superstition, witches and wizards. Now she can't read books like Harry Potter or watch disturbing movies because they disturb her spirit.
Superstitions and "Good Luck" Items
This woman explained how things which are said to bring good luck into her life only opened doors for demons to come in. For instance, she used to have a horseshoe nailed over her front door because she was told having it there would bring good luck. It did bring good luck for the demons, but it did not bring good luck to those who lived in the house. Instead, it brought trouble and turmoil.
This woman explained that she has to check the patterns on the clothing she wears. Her spirit is disturbed if she wears clothing with paisley, reptiles and prints with writings that open doors and invite demons into her life. She cannot wear anything dealing with the signs of the Zodiac.
When this woman was participating in the above practices, she couldn't get any peace because Satan had her mind. Now that she has gone from divination to deliverance she is enjoying life, and the fruit of the Spirit is evident in her life.
If you are not enjoying life and experiencing an intimate relationship with God, perhaps you, too, should go from divination to deliverance by giving up those occult practices.
