Paper Trail Story #1 – Gineen and Harry

Mixed in with the other papers on Harry’s desk, Gineen found a receipt for a $537 gold bracelet dated two weeks before Christmas. Gineen was highly upset, because Harry had not given her a gold bracelet for Christmas. So he’d obviously given it to someone else.

This only confirmed what Gineen had suspected all along – that Harry was having an affair. She’d been finding subtle signs for several months which suggested that Harry was cheating on her.

Gineen figured the bracelet was probably a Christmas gift for Harry’s mistress, but what disturbed Gineen the most was that the receipt she found confirmed her worst fears. See 40 Fatal Signs That You’re about to Be Dumped

Based on the amount of money Harry spent on this woman’s Christmas gift, he was serious about her, who ever she was. This told Gineen that Harry’s affair was more than just a fling. See Will He Leave You For Her?

Paper Trail Story #2 – Carlotta and Miguel

Carlotta discovered an incriminating receipt shortly after Christmastime. On the floor of the closet, she found a piece of paper that had apparently fallen from the pocket of a pair of Miguel’s pants.

As Carlotta started to toss the receipt into the wastepaper basket, she noticed that the receipt was from a jewelry store. And it indicated that Miguel had purchased not one pair of gold earrings, but two.

Miguel had indeed given Carlotta had received a beautiful pair of gold earrings for Christmas, but who had he given the other pair of earrings to? Then the devastating thought occurred to Carlotta that maybe Miguel was having an affair. Why else would he buy duplicate Christmas gifts? Paper Trail Story #3 – Liz and Jim

On one of the credit card bills that came in after Christmas, Liz noticed a charge for a $100 gift card from Victoria’s Secret. Though she occasionally bought lingerie for herself from Victoria’s Secret, always used her Victoria’s Secret charge card - never her MasterCard.

Paper Trail Story #4 – Megan and Charles

Charles asked Megan to drop off his suit at the cleaners when she left for work that day, since he was running late. Before leaving the house with Charles’ suit, Megan made a quick check of the pockets to make sure they were empty. In addition to a crumpled dollar bill, Megan also found a receipt for 3 days of pampering at a nearby spa.

Megan immediately became suspicious because her Christmas gift from Charles was a gift card for her favorite department store. Who did Charles treat to 3 days at a spa? Paper Trail Story #5 – Christina and Otis

Christina had been searching for signs of infidelity for the past few weeks because she suspected Otis of cheating on her. Thus far, the telltale signs Christina found suggested that Otis’s was having an affair with someone she probably knew. Then it dawned on Christina’s that this would make it easier for her to find out who Otis’s mistress might be. The Coach bag would help her narrow it down. All she had to do was find out who among their friends received a new Coach bag for a Christmas gift.

Paper Trail Story #6 – Laura and Gregory

Laura almost overlooked the $300 ATM withdrawal slip on Gregory’s nightstand because it was the same amount of money they withdrew from their joint account when they went to an indoor flea market to shop for additional family Christmas gifts.

But what caught Laura’s eye was that this ATM slip was from a different bank account, and the money was withdrawn on a different date. Not only that, the money was withdrawn from a different branch than the branch they normally used. This withdrawal was made from a branch located at popular mall.

Laura became suspicious, because Gregory’s personal Christmas gift to her had cost nowhere near $300. Convinced that Gregory used the money to buy a gift for another woman, Laura began to search for signs that Gregory might be having an affair. See Why the Wife is STILL the Last to Know

The Happy Ending to Carlotta’s Paper Trail Story

But Carlotta’s story had a happy ending.

In April, Miguel’s mother came up from Florida to spend a week with Carlotta and Miguel. When they picked her up from the airport, Carlotta noticed that her mother-in-law was wearing a pair of gold earrings identical to the ones she received from Miguel at Christmastime.

When Carlotta complimented her mother-in-law on the beautiful earrings, she replied “Thank you. Miguel sent them to me for Christmas last year.” So at least for Carlotta, the mystery of the “duplicate Christmas gifts” was resolved.

A Word of Caution to Other Wives

The ending to Carlotta’s story, is a prime example of why it’s never good to jump to the conclusion that your husband is cheating on the basis of one or two telltale signs.
