On Wednesday Dec 11, Houston City Council Member “Brad” Bradford used his weekly announcement time to remind Houston voters of Saturday's runoff election. Anytime a candidate fails to receive more than 50% of the votes cast, a runoff between the two top candidates is required. Typically, turnout for a runoff election is only a fraction of the participation at the general election. Bradford described the early voting result as “dismal.”

The November 4 Municipal election left 5 Council Seats undecided: In District A, incumbent Helena Brown faces former Council Member Brenda Star dig, who did not run 2 years ago due to term limits. Both are republicans. However, Council Member brown espouses an anti-government approach favored by the tea party, and votes against almost all expenditures. She describes herself as “The Ted Cruz of Houston City Council.” Helena Brown lead a field of 4 candidates in November with about 28%, almost twice Stardig's support.

District B is an open seat being vacated by Wanda Adams due to term limits. Candidates Georgia Provost is running against Dwight Boykins, both democrats, are neighbors in Midtown.

In District I, an open seat being vacated by James Rodriguez, is in a contest between Robert Gallegos and Graci Garces, the victors in a nearly evenly divided 4 way contest in November.

At large Position 2 is a race between incumbent Andrew Burks, faces and political newcomer David W. Robinson, Robinson. Both are democrats, but Robinson polled higher numbers than Burks in November.

Position 3 is an open seat being vacated by Melissa Noriega. Attorney Michael Kubosh is running against retired firefighter Roy Morales. Both are republicans, with distinct support basis. Kubosh is perhaps best known for leading the campaign for a referendum to remove red light cameras.

On Monday evening, Andrew Burks, Helena Brown, and Michael Kubosh walked hand in hand before the Harris County Republican Executive Committee meeting at Houston Baptist University, Ms. Stardig was also present. She and Helena Brown addressed the group briefly.
