Houston woman sentenced to prison for animal torture videos

A Texas woman was sentenced to at least 10 years in prison for her role in animal torture videos, also called "crush" videos to those in underground fetish communities. Historically, crush videos feature a woman torturing and killing helpless animals, sometimes for profit.

23 year old Ashley Richards pleaded guilty to three charges of animal cruelty Thursday, May 29th in hopes that she would eventually get out on probation. The man who filmed the videos for her, 52 year old Brent Justice, is also from Houston, Texas. He is also being charged with animal cruelty, and been given a bond of $50,000. He has not yet entered a plea.

Camille Hepola, a spokewoman for the Harris County district attorney says that this case will be taken to Texas Legislature in January, where they hope that it will inspire lawmakers to extend prison sentences for those accused of certain types of animal abuse and cruelty.

This has long been a point of contention with animal lovers in the state of Texas, many believing that legislature involving animals is far too lax, and does not discourage would-be abusers from the act. Additionally, no small amount of research has proven that animal cruelty such as this is a reflection of the capacity of an individual to tend towards violence in most situations.
