Are you ready to ride? Ready to start shedding those accursed holiday pounds and begin your annual tune-up for the BP MS150, swimsuit season, or both? Then get your bike out to Lone Star College Cy-Fair on Saturday, January 12, 2014 for the 12th annual FrostBike 50.
Yep, it's time to get rolling, and this is the place to begin (even if it will probably be in the 40s when the starter flag drops). This annual ride benefits the Gold Dusters Drill Team at Jersey Village High School, so there should be lots of smiling high-schoolers at the plentiful rest stops. The festivities begin at Lone Star College Cy-Fair, 9191 Barker-Cypress Road at West, with an 8:00 a.m. start.
Participants may choose from rides of 17, 45 and 55 miles heading west and north from the area of the college (toward your favorite Zube Park environs). Once you get back to the finish line, the Dusters will provide a snack between the hours of 11 and 1 (including the traditional banana bread recipe). Pre-registered riders are guaranteed a ride T-shirt.
A mail-in registration form is available at the Gold Dusters' website, or you may register through Active.com. Registration fees are $30 per rider until December 28, $40 a head 29 December until the day of the ride. Walk-up registration will be available after 6:30, but bring cash or a check.
It's a BP MS150 recommended Training Ride, so the usual conditions apply: SAG and mechanical support available, Snell or ANSI-approved helmet required, and no headphones or radios (as if anyone paid attention to that!)
If you're going, Lone Star College is on Barker-Cypress Road about 30 miles from downtown Houston via the Northwest Freeway (US 280) or Katy Freeway (I-10). The location is 3 miles south of 290 or 9 miles north of I-10. Dress warmly!
