Houston Rockets rumors reveal the team is already in hot pursuit of Carmelo Anthony. These Houston Rockets rumors come from early Tuesday morning (July 1), as the franchise is already trying to convince the All-Star forward to come to town. According to a report from Eric Freeman at Yahoo!, the team is rolling out a "full court press" for one of the most sought-after free agents on the market.

Among the selling points that include a huge salary in a long-term contract, the franchise is going to press hard the fact that he would be joining a team that is already in contention. It was no fluke that they won 54 games last season, even though the postseason was over far quicker than fans would have hoped. The return of Dwight Howard and James Harden gives them a chance to put together a very formidable "big three" down in Texas for years to come.

Despite many other Houston Rockets rumors out there, the current roster for the team is stacked with talent. That includes forwards Terrence Jones and Chandler Parsons, as well as defensive-minded point guard Patrick Beverley. It is very clear that the roster would have to shed some salary in order to afford Carmelo Anthony, but they have already traded Omer Asik and plan to do the same with the contract of Jeremy Lin.

Dealing Lin is a requirement if the franchise wants to afford the signing of Anthony, so it might even require something like a sign-and-trade deal with the New York Knicks. If the Rockets were to include a good draft pick or maybe a young asset or two in order to add depth, it might be something that the Knicks would be willing to do. New York may be forced to tread water for a season if they lose their best asset to another franchise (Anthony).

The trip down to Texas will take place on Wednesday (July 2), with stiff competition expected from the Chicago Bulls and Dallas Mavericks when it comes to free agency. It has been rumored that the Phoenix Suns are also planning to put an offer in play for both LeBron James and Anthony, so selling him on the city of Houston will be very important.

As for a possible impact in fantasy basketball, if Carmelo Anthony signed with a team that already has James Harden and Dwight Howard on the roster, he is going to take a hit across the board in the counting statistics.
