The Houston Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) announced on Friday they are asking for help from the public identifying the culprit(s) responsible for the extreme neglect of a seven-week-old puppy. The announcement is a constant reminder of the egregious acts of animal cruelty inflicted upon those who have no voice.
According to the organization's Facebook page, the tiny white chow mix was heard whimpering in the bushes on Kingwood and Garden Oaks Drive near a Starbucks in Houston earlier this week. A harness was strapped so tightly around her tiny body, it had embedded itself into the tender puppy's skin; oozing with a serious infection and covered in maggots.
Named Sapphire, the visually impaired puppy was rushed to the Houston SPCA's veterinary facilities where she is being treated with pain medication, antibiotics, and delicate wound cleaning.
Adorable little Sapphire is expected to make a full recovery, but she will not be available for adoption until her wounds have healed.
Meanwhile the Houston SPCA wants to see the person responsible for this heartless crime be brought to justice. If you have any information about this puppy, please call (713) 869-7722 or email www.houstonspca.org.
Please share Sapphire's story with your friends, relatives, and coworkers. This innocent puppy deserves justice.
