WWE and local star Booker T has the opportunity to do something next weekend that he's not done in nearly a decade. And that is put the WWE Intercontinental Championship around his waist. But at the TLC: Tables, Ladders, and Chairs event next weekend, he will have that opportunity as he steps in the ring against reigning champion Cody Rhodes.
Rhodes, who is the son of WWE Hall of Famer "American Dream" Dusty Rhodes and often-controversial WWE star Goldust (Dusty and Goldust both originally from Austin), is in his first run as I-C Champion. One of the first acts Rhodes decided to do after defeating Ezekiel Jackson back in August was to revive the classic style look of the I-C Title. The belt, originally designed in a classic block-style look, was changed to a modern oval-shape design during the Attitude Era of the late 90s. Many fans were actually very happy to see a version of the classic title return.
Booker T has been stapled to the announce table on "Friday Night SmackDown" since his return to the organization back in January at the Royal Rumble, where he and Kevin Nash made long awaited returns the organization after recently departing from TNA Wrestling. Over the last month or so, he and Rhodes have been engulfed in a feud that has seen Rhodes attack Booker on a couple of occasions.
Next Sunday, Booker will have the chance to add a historic 42nd championship to his mantle, already having one run in 2003 as Intercontinental Champion. Booker has held an unbelievable 17 World Tag Team Championships, ranging between WWE and WCW as well as Global Wrestling Federation (GWF) that was based in Dallas.
After his appearance in this year's Royal Rumble match, it has often been a question as to when Booker would return to the ring full-time, or if he would do so. Bringing the I-C Championship back to Houston would add yet another accomplishment to an already storied career that Booker would tell you is far from over.
