Houston Marathon Committee calls for volunteers

It's no secret that many hopeful runners didn't get registered this year with the new lottery registration system. Anyone can still participate in a way (and score a T-shirt) by volunteering to help out. The Houston Marathon Committee has just announced openings for course safety guards, finish line medal distributors, water table help, and more.

This is a good way to give back to the running community here in Houston, and who knows, perhaps build up some good karma to redeem in next year's lottery. To get involved, go to the volunteer sign-up page.

The 2012 U.S. Olympic Marathon Team Trials are coming

Houston will be hosting the Olympic trials. This is a huge nod to Houston's growing prominence and importance in the elite road racing world. It's also worth noting that an event this big will funnel a large amount of cash into the local economy during these rough financial times.

To get involved and volunteer for the trials, and possibly rub shoulders with the stars, send an email to They will add your info to the database and contact you when they get closer to the event.
