The Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo released the 2012 artist line-up earlier today. The twenty-two performers coming to town include country legends, and R&B crowd pleaser, a little rock and roll, a few kid friendly groups, and two Tejano entertainers.
After holding a Farewell Tour over 8 years ago country trio Alabama returns to the stage to open Rodeo Houston 2012 on Tuesday, February 28. After recording with Brad Paisley in 2011 the band is discussing a do-over of their goodbye to fans, this time ending in Alabama where it all started.
The HLS&R celebrates the military on Wednesday, February 29 with Armed Forces Appreciation Day. Kid Rock will be in town to rock the crowd, returning just a year after his debut performance at Rodeo Houston. Just this past summer Rock celebrated his sixth Platinum album “Born Free” released in 2010.
Popular country-crossover band Lady Antebellum performs on Thursday, March 4. The Nashville group has been on the scene since 2007 when they released their first single, “Love Don’t Live Here”. Since then they have enjoyed multiple CMA, ACM, CMT, and Grammy nominations and wins.
The Kroger sponsored Black Heritage Day brings R&B star John Legend who holds 9 Grammy Awards. After spending a part of 2011 on the rode with Sade, he has returned to work on his upcoming album.
March 3 is Luke Bryan’s first appearance at Rodeo Houston. The “Country Girl (Shake it For Me)” singer enjoyed his number two slot on the Billboard Chart for the album.
Kids and tweens have a night of artists specifically chosen for them – Big Time Rush and China McClain and the McClain sisters. Viewers will remember McClain’s portrayal of Jazmine from Tyler Perry’s House of Pain and Big Time Rush from their start on Nickelodeon. Fans can see the two groups on Sunday, March 4.
The Eli Young Band will take just a short ride over from Denton, Texas to get to Rodeo Houston on Monday, March 5. They got their start playing for Texas crowds and will be performing work from their new album “Life at Best.”
March 6 will bring a bevy of girls, young and old to swoon over heartthrob Enrique Iglesias. Called the King of Latin Pop, his most recent hit songs include “Tonight (I’m Loving You)” and “Cuando Me Enamoro”.
The humorous judge from The Voice, Blake Shelton, comes to town to perform music from his latest CD “Red River Blue” on Wednesday, March 7. The new husband of Rodeo Houston performer Miranda Lambert was featured on “I will” the new single released in December 2011 by his protégé from The Voice, Dia Frampton.
Thursday, March 8 audiences will get a little bluesy rock from ZZ Top, who started right here in Houston. The band has been around for over 30 years has a new album coming up this spring.
Houston will “Paint the Rodeo Pink” on Friday, March 9 to raise Breast Cancer awareness. The Queen of Country Reba McEntire will grace the stage. She was inducted to the Country Music Hall of Fame in 2011.
Nashville Star Alum Chris Young performs on Saturday, March 10. His latest album, “Neon”, was released just last summer.
State Farm’s Go Tejano Day features Duelo and La Original Banda El Limon on Sunday, March 11. The native Texan band Duelo the Billboard Latin Chart Toppers released “Vuelo Mas Alto” in 2011. La Original Banda Limon sings the theme song for the popular telenovela “Zacatillo” and released “El Primer Lugar” in 2011.
Last year attendees of the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo were treated to the taste of Zac Brown’s restaurant’s best and will perform this year for the second time on Monday, March 12 with their popular hits “Chicken Fried” and “Whatever It Is”.
Song of the Year winner for “The House that Built Me” Miranda Lambert comes to Rodeo Houston six days after husband Blake Shelton on Tuesday, March 13. Lambert’s latest album is “Four the Record”.
Brothers and sister act “The Band Perry” perform at Rodeo Houston for the first time on Wednesday, March 14 with their new album “All Your Life”. Their most popular songs include “If I Die Young” and “Hip to My Heart”.
The Thursday, March 15 show features Jason Aldean who won the CMA Country Album of the Year in 2011. He’s most known for the singles “Big Green Tractor” and “Dirt Road Anthem”.
Rodeo Houston goes pop rock on Friday, March 16 with San Francisco group Train. It’s been a few years since they released “Meet Virginia” and “Drops of Jupiter” but the classics are always fan favorites. Their newest single “Drive By” was just released on Facebook this weekend.
Brad Paisley comes to town on Saturday, March 17. The 2010 CMA Entertainer of the Year award winner’s latest album “This is Country Music” includes the singles “Remind Me” and “Old Alabama”.
The 2012 Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo closes on Sunday, March 18 with Cinch Super Shootout and country superstar Alan Jackson. Jackson received his star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2010 and won the 2011 Grammy for Best Country Collaboration with Vocals for the single “As She’s Walking Away” with Zac Brown Band.
