Today is your last day to get HIV tested for your ticket to the 2012 Houston Hip Hop for HIV Awareness Concert. The Concert is tomorrow and promises to live up to its reputation for good music and fun. But you cannot get into the concert if you do not have a ticket. And you can only get a ticket when you get yourself HIV tested.
The folks of Houston Hip Hop for HIVAwareness, along with their community partners- AIDS Foundation Houston, City of Houston, Houston Department of Health & Human Services and KBXX 97.9 The Box Houston-- are offering a performance line-up that includes Kirko Bangz, Driicky Graham, Travis Porter, Beat King, Z-RO and V.I.C. They know that the concert must be exciting enough to motivate young hip hop and rap music fans to take action. And they are god at what they do. This is why they can boast that 47,000 young people have been HIV tested in connection with their initiative since 2007.
Their message, “Know Your Status” is an especially important one for this demographic. According to Marlene McNeese-Ward, Bureau Chief for the Houston Department of Health’s HIV Prevention Program, young African-American men and women make up 75% of the reported HIV cases in Houston.
