It's not every day that a school can boast of 100% pass rates for TAKS in all subjects tested. Houston Heights Learning Academy accomplished this feat during the 2010-11 school year and is rated as Exemplary by the state of Texas. The school made the Texas Business Education Coalition Honor Roll, has received the award of Title I Distinguished School, and is nominated to receive the National Blue Ribbon School Award for 2012.

Serving students in pre-Kindergarten through fifth grade, the school prides itself on providing a quality education to students off all socio-economic, racial, and ethnic backgrounds. Teacher-student ratios are 1 to 18 and emphasis is placed on literature and science. According to Yvette East, Superintendent and Principal of Houston Heights Learning Academy, the school's mission is to challenge the unique talents of each student and to "meet our students where they are academically and grow them forward." A viable curriculum, continuous assessment of best practices, and parental and community involvement are keys to Houston Heights Learning Academy's success.
Last year, parents of Houston Heights Learning Academy students travelled to Austin to visit the state legislature regarding the proposed budget cuts. These parents networked with other charter school parents and the result was a personal visit by Texas State Representative Jessica Farrar. Farrar visited the school, ate breakfast with parents, and addressed parents' questions and concerns about cuts in educational funding. The charter school has proved itself to be a valuable voice in the charter school community.
What are the school's future goals? "Our goals are always geared towards improving student learning," says Superintendent East. "Each year presents a different set of challenges, so we must always attack
the challenge at hand to continually improve."
