The Houston Gilbert and Sullivan Society's 2013 summer production is H.M.S. Pinafore, one of the most-loved English comic operas. It is the fourth collaboration between Gilbert & Sullivan, and it debuted at the Opera Comique on May 28, 1878. This show was the first "blockbuster" production of the duo. To this day, Pinafore remains one of G & S’s most popular operas with one “hit song” after another, from “We Sail the Ocean Blue,” to “He Is an Englishman.”
The Houston production stars Alistair Donkin as Sir Joseph Porter, Amanda Kingston as Josephine, Dennis Arrowsmith as Captain Corcoran, Sarah L. Lee as Buttercup, George Williams as Ralph Rackstraw, Julia Swindle as Cousin Hebe, Zachary Bryant as the Boatswain, Cristino Perez as Dick Deadeye, and Brian Lassinger as the Carpenter's Mate. The show, which has had rave reviews on BroadwayWorld.com and by the Houston Chronicle, will play Friday and Saturday evening (July 26 & 27) at 8:00 p.m. and Sunday afternoon, July 28, at 2:30 p.m.
