A Houston father shot the teen boy who was in his 16-year-old daughter’s bed at 2:30 a.m. in the morning after the daughter denied knowing the 17-year-old who was in her bed. While the daughter and the Houston father have declined any requests for an interview according to a March 14 Houston Chronicle report, the family of the shot teen is asking that the father be charged with murder.

The deadly confrontation between the 17-year-old boy and the Houston father began when the Houston father’s 16-year-old daughter let the 17-year-old boy into her home in the 22000 block of Bridgestone Ridge. When the father heard noises coming from his daughter’s bedroom around 2:30 a.m., he went to check on her. After denying that she knew the teen boy who was in her bed, the father fired one shot – and 17-year-old Johran McCormick was killed.

According to police reports, the father believed his daughter that the teen in her bed was a stranger and when the teen appeared to be reaching for something, he fired his gun and killed the teen with one shot to the head. The 55-year-old father has not been arrested or charged with a crime so far.

According to the teen boy’s family, they thought their son was still in New Orleans for spring break and they did not expect him to return to Houston until Sunday.

According to the Houston Chronicle report, the 17-year-old boy’s mom and dad “tried to teach their children to be cautious about the world but tried to be realistic about raising a teenager.” The boy’s father, Shawn Curley, said that “every day one of us would tell him, 'Don't go by no little girl's house if her parents don't know you’.” The teen’s mom said that "I was a teenager once too. And I know what teenagers do." The parents want the father to be charged with murder.

After the Houston father shot the teen boy who was in his daughter’s bed at 2:30 a.m. in the morning, some people are saying that he acted in self-defense since his daughter said she didn’t know the stranger who was in her bed. Others argue that the father overreacted and that there was no reason to shoot.
