Houston faces Rice in first round of C-USA tournament

The Houston Cougars go into the Conference USA men’s basketball tournament as the number six seed and will face the Rice Owls in the 6:00 p.m. game on Wednesday.

The Cougars, who are 18-11 for the season and 7-9 in conference play will face an Owls team that is 5-25 for the season and 1-15 in conference.

The Owls lone win came against the Cougars by the score of 79-69 on Jan. 30 on their home court.

Houston won the second match-up at Hofheinz Pavilion by the score of 84-62 on March 6 and is riding a three-game winning streak going into Wednesday night’s game.

The winning of the Houston-Rice game will face Texas-El Paso, who is the No. 3 seed.
Houston will be led by TaShawn Thomas and Daniel House, who were recently named to the All-Conference USA team.

Thomas was named to the All-Conference USA First Team while House earned third-team honors.

In addition, House was also named Conference USA Freshman of the Year for 2012-13.
The Conference USA tournament is being played at the BOK Center in Tulsa.
