Texas’ first NSWL team, Houston Dash, have gotten their pre-season underway, and remain perfect as they recorded a 1-0 win over Texas A&M in their second ever match at Houston Sports Park on Saturday morning.
Houston started well and opened the scoring after just seven minutes as an error allowed Tiffany McCarty to gain possession and square for Kealia Ohai, sending her through one-on-one, allowing her a simple finish to get things rolling.
In the 17th minute it could well have been 2-0 to Houston as Ohai put the ball in to the back of the net after an Ella Masar ball in, only for the goal to be disallowed after a foul on Aggies keeper Renee McDermott, who suffered a head clash in the foul.
That lead to some tense scenes as McDermott was down with a head injury and required extensive treatment, eventually requiring her to be stretchered from the field but she waved to the fans on her way off, leaving hope that she was fine.
That forced on Aggies second choice keeper Jordan Day, and she was heavily tested throughout the next few stages but did well to keep an attacking Dash at bay.
In stoppage time Ohai was at it again as a throw-in allowed Masar to flick the ball on for the striker, allowing her to run and shoot but Day dove out well, making a save at full stretch to keep it down to 1-0 at the break.
The second half saw Houston continue to dominate but the Aggies defense were up to the task as they held out a strong Houston side, keeping it to just 1-0.
