Houston celebrates 4th annual Carnival with Sister City Nice, France (Photos)

Houston celebrates its 60th year as a Sister City with Nice in southeast France. The City of Nice has a rich cultural history as a center for the arts, unique cuisine, and its University campus. It's Spring Carnival is world famous, featuring amazing sculptures, dances, and processions and costumes.

For the last 4 years, Houstonians have been invited to hold our own celebration in honor of the Carnaval de Nice, the Houston-Nice Sister City Association has sponsored a costume contest and reception, with wine, food bars, and raffles, a staple at seemingly every event in France and Quebec.

This year, the Houston-Nice Sister City Association teamed up with the French-American Chamber of Commerce to Sponsor the festival at the Next Door Bar at 14714 Memorial Drive. While costumes have become rarer over the years, this year's winner wore floral hat in typical Nice-style fashion, as one might see at a typical open air market in Nice.

The City of Houston now has 17 Sister Sisties around the globe.
